How to check a job offer and avoid recruitment scams

A careful checklist for verifying a recruiter, employer, job offer and application link before sharing documents or money.

Verify the source independently

Check the employer’s official website and contact channels separately from the message you received. Compare the recruiter’s email domain, role title and company details. If the offer is unexpected, contact the organization through a number or address published on its official site and ask whether the role and recruiter are genuine.

Watch for pressure and requests for payment

Treat urgent demands, guaranteed employment claims, vague job descriptions and requests to transfer money as reasons to pause and verify. The UAE Government’s job-search guidance says job seekers are not required to pay recruitment-agency fees; it also advises applicants not to pay. Review the official guidance before responding to any request for recruitment or processing fees.

Protect identity and account information

Do not send passwords, one-time codes, bank login details or identity documents to an unverified contact. Share only the information needed for a legitimate application, through a channel you have checked. Avoid opening unexpected attachments or signing in through links sent in unsolicited messages.

Check the offer before accepting

Ask for the role, employer, work location, compensation structure and next steps in writing. Compare the details with what you discussed and seek clarification when terms differ or are missing. Keep copies of the vacancy and messages. For UAE-specific questions about offer letters or labour and visa fraud, use the official government information and contact channels below.
